In 2008, a 22-year-old, doe-eyed Californian named Alex Honnold stunned the climbing world by free soloing the iconic, 9-pitch Moonlight Buttress (V 5.12+) in Zion National Park. Honnold reportedly booted up, pressed play on his iPod—“pre smart phones,” he notes—and danced up the crack climb in 83 minutes. So what were the tunes? Honnold rocked his top tunes at the time, telling BD that now it seems a little dated. “But it was a good reflection at the time.”

We’ve recreated Honnold’s Moonlight playlist here. So boot up, rope up (‘cause let’s face it, there’s only one Honnold) and press play.
