Helio Alpine Shell is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very durable, could be lighter I've been using this jacket the past year as my heavier duty shell for really nasty weather. Here in Utah we rarely need the full-on three-layer rain shells, but I use it backcountry skiing and brought it to Patagonia last year as my waterproof layer. It is pretty light and packable for a full GORE-TEX layer, but not nearly as light or packable as a Patagonia M10 or the old BD Mono Point shell (for someone looking for a true ultralight shell). I'm 5'11" and 160 lbs, and the medium is a bit baggier in the torso than I'd like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lightweight hardshell for the Mtn's! I recently used the Helio Alpine Shell on several climbing expeditions from the Cordillera Blanca to the PNW. I was surprised how well this shell kept out the elements. The jacket is also really breathable so if the weather is nasty you can still climb, move, and travel with it on but not end up super sweaty. Just to help people out with sizing I'm 6ft about about 165lbs and I got a size Large. It's a bit big in the chest, but I like that as I can put that over other layers in the mountains.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light but burly hard shell This is a great shell and a serious upgrade from the MonoPoint Shell (BD's previous super lightweight hardshell jacket) in terms of durability and user friendliness. Just as packable as the previous MonoPoint, this shell now has two chest pockets and the Coheasive hood cinch and waist cinch are slim and intuitive to use. I also found that this jacket offers a slight but noticeable increase in shoulder mobility. Previous BD hardshells in medium have been somewhat restrictive in the shoulders, however this new shell doesn't have that problem. Although it is a bit heavier than the MonoPoint, most users won't be able to notice the weight difference. I found this jacket climbs well, and the pockets and pit zips allow for easy ventilation when you are moving. It hides in your pack, un-noticed, until the conditions get blustery or wet and then it's a solid piece of the alpine kit. Like previous reviewers, I did find that the medium size has a bit more room in the chest than necessary. However, this can also accommodate bulkier thermal layers underneath. For reference I am 6'1" and 175lbs and a medium fit well (a bit bulky in the chest, noted above).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall solid light-weight shell. I have used this shell in three different trips this season. First was ice climbing in Bozeman. The shell fits nice and slim while still allowing enough layers under (6 ft, 200 lbs, size L). It did not ride up through the harness during climbing and provided great flexibility. The hood fit well over a climbing helmet. The second trip was for a winter climb of Mt. Baldy in SoCal. The shell was very, very comfortable next to skin. The only drawback in this use were the functionality of the pit zips. They are a little bit in an awkward placement and require you to either take off the shell or for you to get nice an intimate with your partner... not necessarily the worst thing. On the flip side of that, the shell breaths extremely well... Almost Goretex Active well, so the pit zips were more of an extra dump of heat more than anything. On the summit, winds pushed more than 30 mph, yet it cut wind perfectly. I glissaded roughly 700 ft on the way down with it and there was no damage whatsoever. The last trip was skiing at Mammoth during a snow storm (in resort). For wind/waterproofness, top notch shell. It held its own in whiteout conditions for wet snow and worked extremely well with burly under the cuff gloves. The hood did not fit the best over a ski helmet though. It did not completely the helmet and left part of my face exposed due to that. Other than the face exposure, the shell was remarkable in adverse wind (50-70 mph on exposed ridge lines). All in all, this is a very versatile shell that is very lightweight, strong and gets the job done. If you are looking for a resort jacket, this is not it, but if you want to make one purchase that can cover many activities with above average performance, this is your shell.
