Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warmest gloves I own My pair is a few years old. I hadn't worn them much as I had taken an unintended break from skiing until about 2 years ago. They do run small, as most have said. I usually wear L, and the XL in these is perfect. They're a little bulky, but when I think I might get cold hands, I go with these and never have a problem. Sometimes they're almost too warm, but that's better than being too cold. No problems with mine at all. I was thinking of buying some heated gloves for this winter, but I never find the need when I wear the Guides. I'm convinced that these are the warmest non-heated 5-finger gloves on the market, and they're actually a pretty good deal at $169 msrp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I really like these gloves So far so good. I've skied with these gloves 6-10 days so far and they are solid. A little bulky at first but they break-in quickly and are really comfortable. My hands are always cold and I can't say they are warm in these gloves on cold (25-30 degrees) days but they aren't freezing either, like with other gloves I've had. They also stay pretty dry on wet snow/rain days so that's a plus. I like the removable liners and that I can get wet hands in the gloves without any problems. I am a Ski Patroller so I'm always taking my gloves on and off and I hate gloves that the liner gets jammed in the fingers, these don't.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very dissapointed I bought these gloves having heard that they were the best around, and I couldn't have been more disappointed, especially because of the price. I found my fingers getting cold around 10 degrees and even got to the point where I switched these out for a lighter pair that worked better. They also get wet very easily and take a long time to dry. I highly recommend Black Diamond to everybody I meet, but not these gloves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very capable winter glove. This is an excellent choice for a functional and tough winter skiing/backcountry glove. Pro: Warm in extreme cold Con: Loss of dexterity, minimal, but it's there. In my opinion, this should be expected and really should not be a deterrent. Pro: Super Comfortable. Con: Sizing might be suspect. This is the only pair of gloves I've needed to buy in XL; I typically wear a large. I've not tested durability as I've only had them one season, but so far they are living up to my expectation which is: a warm, comfortable glove, that will last a few seasons.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm and Comfortable, But Not Like A Second Skin I've always been victim to cold hands, despite being rather active on the mountain, perhaps because of my genetic predisposition to poor distal circulation. So, I decided to go big and purchase the top-of-the-line, warmest gloves BDEL makes, the 'Guide' gloves. Lines with sheep's wool and with a strong, sturdy, and well-stitched exterior, these gloves are both warm and dependable for working with rope, flora, or whatever else the day might throw at you. I did deduct one star because these aren't the easiest gloves to maneuver with. Not only is there a significant loss of dexterity by way of dealing with 1/2" of insulation, it is also tactically difficult to get the liner back into the sheath after removing it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultimate Glove I'm a ski patroller and part-time assistant guide and these are my number 1 gloves for a decade now. They are warm and have great dexterity. That's the ultimate combo right there. Plus they dry easily, the removable liners are easy to put on and off, they stay in place while wearing. They are also very durable, I change every 2 years but still keep the used pair for the dirty work on patrol. After that, I donate the gloves to a hut for emergency use and they are still good with maybe a Seam Grip repair or two, they usually small gas and they are not as warm but they are far from dead.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bomber Glove with serious shortcomings This is the bomber of all gloves in terms of construction and insulation. However, I wouldn't recommend them unless you were just going to load people onto ski lifts in sub zero temperatures. They are so heavily insulated that my wife's hands (size medium) got cold in the gloves--too tight. They are so stiff (across the back of the knuckles) that they could be used for hand strength development.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect work glove. After going through 2 pairs of mitts/gloves at work in less than a month I decided I needed to make an upgrade to the guides to see how they compare. After a season and a half of moving miles of flagline, rocking chainsaws around the mountain, and hoisting stacks of race netting, I can safely say these are the most durable gloves Ive ever owned. Two things - One, I did read the reviews and chose to size up (smart decision on my part as the larges fit like a dream.) Two, they do pack out rather quickly. They were the warmest gloves I had when they were brand new, however now any time the weather drops below -15 c I reach for my mitts in the morning. Very Happy with this purchase and will be buying another set as soon as i wear through my first pair.
