Rated 5 out of 5 by from User friendly and comfortable So far so good on this ski pack. It took me some time to familiarize myself with all the systems of this pack, but once I got them dialed in, it made my transitions and carrying things a lot smoother. The access to the main compartment on the backside makes it easier to keep the back of the pack dry and sits securely on hills and in the snow. I can fit all I need for a full backcountry day: a couple liters of water, snacks and lots of layers. I love the compatablilty with the avalung- it's out of the way and it's great to have that added safety. Haven't tried the hydration pocket or the ski carry yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This 32L pack retired two other BD packs Every feature my 45L Revelation and a 30L Slide packs have are eclipsed by the Dawn Patrol 32. Carry ice-tools AND access avy gear immediately. A-frame AND diagonal ski-carry. Total access to pack's contents via the zipped + padded back-panel even with a fully-loaded pack. Usable (roomy) belt-pouches. AvaLung Element and hydration compatible. After a dicey late-season alpine rock-solo exiting a couloir I skied in ice-boots (the crux was loosening the top A-frame carry ski-strap with one hand cuz I couldn't see up), I conceded that skiers actually do have a point with the diagonal carry. My next pack had to have that feature! It's already on assignment prepping a couloir for this season. Thank you, BD!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Setup Great pack, quick access to avy tools, general access to contents and separate compartments is nice. Reason for only 4-stars? Helpful if the back panel internal frame/stiffener could be removed/swapped out for customization, i.e., a chunk of closed cell foam that could also be used as a sit pad or a splint. Also the loops for the helmet carrier could be a bit bigger. So far so good, but I haven't used all the features quite yet.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lightweight and trim, some drawbacks I liked the low profile and clean presentation of this pack. The straps aren't miles long, and it all tucks away cleanly. Ski carry and helmet carry are fine, I like the belt pockets and insulated hydration sleeve on the shoulder. Some things that didn't work as well for me: the back panel zip doesn't include the shoulder straps, and the hydration bladder pocket is placed in an outer layer of the pack, not against the back panel. This places the weight of the water farther from your back, affecting center of gravity/skiability, and cluttering up hose routing to the shoulder. Finally, the zippers were fairly small. I know this is done to reduce weight, but durability was affected. I think it was a great pack for light day tours, but with the current layout and durability it doesn't quite stack up for longer, heavier days or technical outings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great touring pack I've got the 25 as well, prefer the 35 as a great all around touring pack. Just the right size for a day's worth of gear and changing conditions. I'm a fan of back panel access for the big compartment, and I love the avi tools compartment, which I also use for my first aid kit. It skis well, makes carrying skis a snap, and the hip belt pocket is handy as well. The BD team obviously uses their own products, thanks!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Overall decent but not a fan I got this pack partially because it was the only on available at the shop that I was at and my old pack had a strap rip off. I think it is an overall decent bag, but I really don't like that the only way to access to main compartment is through the back zipper. It feels kinda gimmicky. It was pretty annoying to fit everything I wanted for a day in there. I guess I'm just a top loader person.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made for XC skiing It's very comfortable, with wide straps suited to 'poling along'. Its pockets are well designed. It's large enough to accommodate a broad selection of emergency gear. Many of its features have proven useful. It's easy to strap skis on the back. The insulated shoulder strap helps prevent freezing of the tube from a water sack. AvaLung compatibility could save one's life, if there's an avalanche.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great except it was too small I had to send this back. It is very well designed and I love the helmet carrier. It carries A frame skis comfortably, and I think it would be really nice to ski in. The avi pocket was big with room for wet skins. But it was just too small for an extended very cold day. Let me preface this by saying one friend thinks I carry too much. In the main compartment I could only fit a smallish first aid kit, an ultralight puffy, my ultra light goretex shell and nothing else (no mittens, no fleece vest, no food bag etc). If I needed to put my soft shell jacket in there, forget it. Also not sure how crampons, an axe, helmet and skis would have all fit on, but I didn't try to get them all on there either. The fact that it was only a back zip main compartment was hard for me, used to a top loader. There was a lot of fiddling trying to get stuff in while keeping the zippers partly zipped so everything would not just fall out. I figured if it was that hard in my living room, it would have been impossible in the middle of a snowstorm. Overall if I just carried a puffy, some food, and a couple of small items, I think this would have been a superb pack. Overall I love BD gear.
