Z-Pole Rapid Deployment System

Z-Pole Rapid Deployment System

  • Concealed inner cord
  • Single push-button release to collapse the pole
  • One-pull, Speed Cone deployment

Speed Cone technology comes from our expertise in avalanche probe design—a key component of Z-Poles' stiffness and fast deployment. Simply grab the grip and the first shaft section, and pull them away from each other. The pole will snap into place and lock. Each Speed Cone guides a shaft section into place, and stiffens the joint when the pole is locked. Protective, flexible tube ends cover the pole’s Kevlar® center cord when folded.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broke twice already! And NOT due to user error I've been backpacking and guiding trips for years. Big fan of BD but this product is just disappointing! First time it snapped, it broke at the button and from the photo you can see the rust eating into the shaft, making it a weak spot. Aluminum is supposed to bend, not snap (that's why I got the aluminum over the carbon ones). BD was nice enough to make an exception and send me a replacement pair (thank you!) Second time it snapped, it did it at the tip end (see photo). Again, the plastic "aged". IMPORTANT: Neither time was due to user error or storage error, IMHO. I'm an experienced backpacker and don't abuse my gear. I pack fast and light and teach my mentees how to properly use hiking poles. Both times the poles broke were not due to jamming through crevices, but while exerting moderate downward force on a level slab of granite. I store my poles clean, dry, and protected from UV light. I've tested many pairs of poles before and expected much more from BD. Unhappy with this!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Love the pole for function but falls out These poles are great in regards to compact, light, comfort and very functional. But, it would be great if the engineering were worked on to keep the connections from coming apart a lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love them I had my last set of poles for 12 years and finally needed to replace them. I shopped for a replacement set and was continually disappointed until these poles. I love them. It took me a few minutes to figure out the system--I had to actually read the directions, but once I figured it out--great! The poles are light, I can reach and grab them from my pack while hiking and have them snap together much quicker than any other pole i have used. They are easy to adjust, and strong enough to hold this clydesdale with a pack. I have no complaints. I love that I can break them down and stuff them into my pack while hiking, adjust quickly at a stream crossing so another hiker than use them. I hope these will be with me for 12 more years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from FLZ Trekking Poles are light but come apart in mud I like the FLZ Trekking Poles' lightweight element but when crossing muddy stream beds, the tip sticks in the damp soils and the pole comes apart. Break out the duct tape!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from better a piece of bamboo!!! I bought this for a 5500 m winter trek in Nepal and unfortunately they proved to be a nightmare! First, the tip of one of the 2 poles broke after only 2 hours of use without any particular reason. Then, as many have experienced, the 3 different sections would disconnect very easily every time the tip was slightly stuck in mud or between rocks. Unfortunately for me, this was not due to not using it in the right way, which as you can see from the reviews is not even intuitive and cause many people to have the same problem I had, just by not knowing that the upper part has to be extended when in use. It was due instead again by poor design and very poor materials which caused the inner cable to get disconnected from one end, making it impossible to keep the 3 section together. My experienced Nepali guide used a bamboo as a pole during the whole trek and was very worried for me as I was relying on a very dangerous path on this poles which were coming constantly apart. It was very embarassing and yes, dangerous. Ok, faulty equipment happens! Unfortunately thats not all. Once I came back I wrote to Taunton Leisure, the shop that sold me that piece of ..... sending pictures. After more than a month, they are still questioning the way I use them just because so many people happen to not understand the FLZ system (is it my fault?), completely ignoring the fact that the tip broke, and not even offering to collect the poles for inspection. So if you want an expensive product that is very bad designed and very bad manifactured, not intuitive to use and with a useless after sale policy, than that's the product for you! I will never ever buy a Black Diamond product again!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, versatile poles for long distance hiking! Used these for a two-day Grand Canyon rim to rim to rim. After almost 50 miles and lots of elevation change you know your equipment pretty well. These are keepers. Light swing weight. Collapsible and light enough to carry when not needed. Sturdy enough not to let you down. Easily adjustable length makes them very versatile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super easy to set up These are easy to set up and break down. They are light weight and sturdy. Easy to adjust with the flint lock system. They fold up and store into the pack in a flash. Great to take along on a technical climb with a bush wack. Especially when you don't want to leave anything outside the pack. Great product !

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice weight and comfort, but.... ....several times during one of my first hikes (an uphill in the Adirondacks) with them, my tips got a little stuck and it caused the poles to separate. Almost all the time, I could swing them back into place. It was always a good "stick" when they separated, so maybe a quick little piece of duct tape may have helped. I did like their weight and comfort. It's also nice how well they collapse.
