Powerful, precise, fully-featured and waterproof, the redesigned 200-lumen Spot offers our convenient PowerTap Technology for on-the-fly brightness adjustments in all weather. Learn More

Our most popular headlamp for everything from pre-work dawn patrols to late-night rappels after a long day, the Black Diamond Spot Headlamp now features 200 lumens of power in a waterproof package. Featuring PowerTap Technology, easy on-the-fly brightness adjustments are literally at the tip of your fingers. With a handy lock mode, the Spot is safe from accidental battery drain while in your pack or pocket.

  • One TriplePower LED, one SinglePower white LED and one SinglePower red LED emits 200 lumens (max setting)
  • PowerTap Technology allows fast and simple transitioning between full and dimmed power in order to instantly increase illumination in distance or proximity modes
  • Red night-vision mode has proximity and strobe settings, and activates without cycling through the white mode
  • Sleek, low profile design uses three AAA batteries and three-level power meter shows remaining battery life for three seconds after switching on headlamp
  • Settings include: full strength in proximity and distance modes, dimming, strobe, red night vision and lock mode
  • IPX8: Waterproof—Tested to operate up to 1.1 meters underwater for 30 minutes. If submerged, water may enter the battery compartment and it will still operate, and it should be dried out completely afterwards.

Headlamp Range

Spot Headlamp - 2016 is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 45.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Terrible operating instructions It's the best headlamp I've ever owned, but it was quite frustrating figuring out how to operate it--the instructions that come with it (same as the ones online) are abysmal. With the light on, hold down the power button, and the brightness will cycle up and down every few seconds. Release the button and the brightness stops changing. Press once to turn on, and then press and hold briefly to put in max brightness mode. These are not obvious from the cryptic pictograms that pass for operating instructions. How do you read the battery meter, and does it work for lithium batteries or just alkalines? I still don't know. With clear, comprehensive written instructions, or even pictorial ones that weren't so poor, I would rate 5 stars.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great lamp, but user guide is undecipherable This is the best headlamp I've owned to date. The headband is comfortable, and the light is very bright with many different operating modes. Unfortunately, the user guide is so frustratingly cryptic I rarely use anything other than the default mode. The manual relies exclusively on Ikea-like pictographs with no explanations. Several of the pictures look identical except they show the fingers fluttering or moving at different speeds. Honestly, I have no idea. I had to read through these reviews to find a simple, 45-word explanation (thanks, Benjamin). I'd give this lamp 5 stars with better instructions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not perfect, but very good. I've only had this light for about a week, but am very happy, if not quite ecstatic with it. The small white led casts an amazingly wide and even light. The larger white led throws a beam with a large center spot, and gives enough distance for most uses. I have a lot of headlamps, and don't mind a fairly complicated user interface like my Zebralights use, but I have some reservations about the Spot's UI. I would like it better if it didn't have the powertap feature (can't see any reason to use it), and I don't know anyone who uses the strobe. It would be nice to go directly to the small white led, but one can go directly to the red led, which sort of makes up for the white. All 3 leds are great, and one can certainly live with the UI.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poorly Written Operating Instructions The product appears well made, but the operating instructions are extremely poor. The instructions lack written descriptions and instead rely on a series of very obtuse diagrams. The video on the BD site is more marketing material as opposed to augmented the operating instructions. It is probably a good product, but the poor quality of the operating instructions make it difficult to find out if the product is any good.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Batteries did not last long Batteries were gone after only a few hours use, or maybe it was not locked, however I did store it in a hard pelican case, so don't know how it would have turned on by accident. The video I just watched did not describe how to use all the features. It was pretty much useless. Luckily, REI has a video that was excellent. I feel changing from one light to the other is too complicated. When you only use the light 2 or 3 times a year, it is hard to remember how it functions. I would prefer 3 different buttons, one for each light. I will likely go back to using a much simpler model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great lamp for the money! This is my first headlamp and I'm very sure that I made the right choice. The first time I donned the light, I immediately noticed that it was extremely comfortable and lightweight. The output is very bright and the features really set this light apart from its competition. I feel as if I can wear this lamp for hours with absolutely no issues. This is by far an excellent, full featured light for the price. I'm really looking forward to field testing this unit, but I'm confident when I say that I know a good headlamp when I see it. Great work BD

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Probably is good. If I can get it to work. These instructions are incredibly insufficient. Had it a week and still can't figure out how to work it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent headlamp for running/skiing I use this headlamp primarily for nighttime running and cross country skiing, as well as for camping and backpacking trips. I find the Spot to be extremely bright and great for running and skiing, it lights up enough of the trail to move quickly and see turns and rocks and snow conditions. The longevity seems solid, and batteries last a while. I use rechargeable AAA batteries (Duracell) and they work fine. I haven't had a need for red lights but its nice to have in case I need them. The proximity light is great for cars, tents, etc where you don't need throw. I like the lock for when you travel to stop the light turning on, and the battery level light. Great product! Stays in place and doesn't feel too heavy. Skied 2h in the rain one night and worked fine the whole time!
