Rated 5 von 5 von aus Does The Job Bought this after a somewhat extensive (online) research. Price was reasonable for what it is. Stiffer chassis than other soft shells thus making it hold it's shape better if you will but it's the water repellent characteristics that I love best. Used it daily to work, driving and public transport. Brought it along to New Zealand for a 11 day trip including skiing up in Mt Ruapehu via Whakapapa. Used as the outermost shell with a fleece inner and base, in pretty heavy snowfall and no issues for a first timer to snowy conditions like me. But I recently lost this jacket while in transit and I just got a second one. Recommended.

Rated 5 von 5 von aus Great Jacket, better customer service I got stuck down in Salt lake without a shell and BD store hooked me up with this jacket. If it was just for the customer service alone I would recommend Black Diamond they have treated me so well and warranty service is bar none Now for the jacket. This is a fenominal touring jacket and I have been using it a lot since. Its very breathable with big front pockets that also double as vents if you leave them empty. the material is great at resisting abrasions for a soft shell!

Rated 5 von 5 von aus Versatile and harness-friendly shell I have used this shell for a number of long days in the mountains in blustery conditions and I found that it climbs well and keeps the conditions at bay. From dripping ice climbs to long alpine slogs in the wind, this shell has kept me warm and stoked. The pockets are easily accessible while wearing a harness. The hood is comfortable even with a climbing helmet on, and the soft shell construction allows any climbing motion to be uninhibited. The texture of the fabric also is durable, and I haven't noticed any 'catching' or micro-tears from abrasion. This is a very breathable, durable, flexible shell that climbs well and is great for higher intensity efforts. I am 6'1" and 175lbs and the medium is perfect. For perspective Patagonia shells in medium are usually too tight around the shoulders by a touch, but this BD medium offers a bit more shoulder room and fits perfectly.

Rated 4 von 5 von aus Amazing coat for ski touring - sizing not so great I just bought this coat and spent the last seven days touring in it everyday. It truly does have great ventilation and the lack of pit zips was not an issue at all as the lighter material that BD put there worked well. The internal pockets on the front were excellent for stashing my skins when I didn't want to put them in my backpack. However, the sizing is not right. I am a L to XL kinda guy - 6 feet tall, 200 lbs - and found the L size of this coat way too baggy and big. This is unheard of for me as I find I usually have to buy XL sizing to fit my big shoulders and long arms. I tried on a L that a friend had and it did fit well. So my tip would be to size down one full size. The cut is definitely not a an athletic type cup, very roomy.

Rated 5 von 5 von aus The Ultimate Jacket I bought this jacket for high output days while I lived in Minnesota. I needed something windproof while I climbed, biked, skied, and well, lived. This jacket quickly surpassed my expectations. Since buying the jacket 2 years ago and moving to Colorado this has been my go to jacket for 90% of my adventures. From the 40+ MPH winds of Minnesota, to the 300+ miles of backpacking and 500+ miles of biking in Colorado, and countless climbing routes in between this jacket has been there through and through. The abrasion resistant material has made it's way through granite, thorns, snow, ice, and a brewery or two. The material is light enough to be worn on hot days as a stand alone (or too lazy to put sunscreen on). The jacket is water RESISTANT, the precip has to be light for it to work. Had a down pour in Medicine Bow-Routt NF and after 25 Minutes of intense rain it soaked through. I knew it was coming, so no dings. I am 6'0", 160lbs and the Medium fits very well. This is my favorite Jacket in my fleet. In early May my Dawn Patrol (Blue) was stolen after I left it behind on accident at a climbing gym, within a week I had ordered a new one (Black) because of how often I use it

Rated 4 von 5 von aus First generation I purchased this jacket retail, at the end of the ski season a few years ago... the upsides... the jacket is completely bombproof... I’ve got at least 50 ski days in it, resort and BC. I’ve also used it around town. The black color has never faded... cold temps and snow, wind, freezing rain, you stay dry... light rain, still dry... heavy rain, as long as the hybrid panels don’t wet out, still pretty dry... downside... I ski’d during last March, it was really foggy, light rain, lifts were wet... like 100% humidity, and in those conditions, the hybrid panels seem to equalize the moisture inside the jacket with the environment... I got soaked... The jacket does so many things well... additionally I’m 5’9”, and weigh 180... a large fits well with room to layer

Rated 5 von 5 von aus Iceland, ice climbing, 14ers, and more Purchased this jacket in September to have a soft shell counter part to my Arc'teryx hard shell. After exhaustive research, I decided that the Dawn Patrol was the right thickness to use as a winter shell for sub-freezing conditions to sub zero conditions due to not trusting DWR in a truly "wet" environment above freezing temps. UTILITY: Incredible happy with the Dawn Patrol, it blocked 65 mph wind gusts in Iceland, spindrift on 14ers, vented well ice climbing and climbing a couple 14ers in 30 degree F temps fully zipped (and it kept ice shrapnel out of my collar,) it fits well over two lighter puffies and a half zip for layering, durability has proven great on a couple rock climbing outings. Definitely blocks the elements (haven't worn in a rain downpour yet, but DWR prevented ice-melt seepage.) It doesn't retain any heat of its own (no brushed fleece interior,) which is great in my mind because it allows a larger dynamic for layering. FIT: I'm 6 foot, 210 lbs, muscular but not lean. Sleeves and hem are long enough that they don't ride up under your harness and stay down while snowboarding/ skiing, keeping the elements off your midriff. Cuffs are slim and sensible and fit well under glove gauntlets. Hood easily fits over any standard rock climbing helmet, with room for some lower profile ski/board helmets. Hood is adjustable to not block field of vision. Finally it looks good and fits right to wear with street clothes in business casual (at least until it gets dilapidated from the heavy adventure use mine sees.) Somehow its got a trim fit that also allows layering good enough for lower 48 summits. High recommend, highly satisfied, all around excellent modern soft-shell.

Rated 4 von 5 von aus Well constructed piece Transparency note: I have only worn the garnment around town and indoors. We’re still waiting on snow here in the Northeast. The overall construction of the jacket is nice. Solid seems, quality sewing, decently burly Velcro cuffs, weighted zipper. Fabric is of quality feel, stretch and provides good movement. The DWR treatment provides less beading than I expected. I know it’s not a rain shell but I wanted a bit more repellency. Helmet compatible hood is as described. I’ve tried it on with both a climbing helmet and ski helmet. Both fit well. Length of the jacket is nice. Longer torso than expected but good for fitting well underneath a climbing or skimo harness. Single elastic drawcord is nice and ticks away neatly so as my to interfere with gear. Sleeves are however awkwardly long. With only a base layer the jacket feels too large (I’m 140lbs, 5’7” and wear a small in almost every company.) With the cuffs tightened properly, there is IMHO too much material bunching around the wrists. With shoulder season glove choices (Kingpin) there might be too much material to properly snug the cuff enough to get a glove gauntlet over. Breathability is better than expected. Even in humid environments. With an additional mid layer the jacket fits better and presumably as designed. Looking forward to putting this thing through a season of guiding!
