Description

From the hard single-pitch splitters of Indian Creek to the soaring alpine walls of the Charakusa Valley, the Black Diamond Chaos harness is a highly durable, premium trad climbing harness that's built for long routes and serious abuse. Equally suited to cragging sessions and multi-pitch free climbs, the Chaos features Kinetic Core Construction, which uses a thin layer of Vectran fibers in place of traditional webbing to evenly distribute weight across the waist and legs. Four pressure-molded gear loops hold cams, slings and on-route essentials, and the front two loops are oversized for optimized racking. A Forged Speed Adjust buckle makes for easy on and off, while the rear 12 kN-rated haul loop secures your tag line.

  • Pre-threaded Forged Speed Adjust waistbelt buckle
  • Bullhorn-shaped waistbelt built using Kinetic Core Construction
  • Waistbelt and leg loops feature abrasion-resistant shell and a soft, padded 3D mesh interior
  • Four pressure-molded gear loops with slightly larger front loops, 12 kN-rated haul loop
  • Adjustable, releasable elastic rear risers

Kinetic Core Construction

Kinetic Core Construction™

Kinetic Core Construction isn't just another step in harness design—it's a quantum leap. Kinetic Core Construction eliminates the need for narrow strands of structural webbing by using a tri-laminate of Vectran™ polymer to distribute the load evenly throughout the harness's entire structure.

Chaos Harness is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for what its made for - TRAD CLIMBING! First things first. If you are looking for one harness to do it all....Sport, Trad, Gym, ICE then look at the Xenos, Aspet or Lotus Harnesses. THE CHAOS HARNESS DOES NOT HAVE ANY ICE CLIPPER SLOTS! I only use my Chaos harness for trad climbing, specifically multi-pitch trad routes or really long sport routes. It is light, comfortable and holds lots of gear! I think my favorite thing about this harness are the elastic leg loops...THEY ARE AMAZING. No adjusting the leg loops...just put the harness on, tighten the waist belt and go! I love this harness! I wish the Xenos and Aspect harness had the elastic leg loop feature rather than the buckles!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best harness I've ever worn I was skeptical of the Chaos at first, especially with the non-adjustable leg loops. I have a weird frame, with a 31 waist and really long, skinny legs... (I ordered a Medium). The leg loops rode up a little high on my legs, which made me worry about the comfort and potential pinching when taking a whipper. When actually weighting the harness, it felt like a dream. So unbelievably comfortable, I could hang around forever. It is so comfortable and lightweight, that I numerous times forgot that it was even on. It felt great when taking a lead fall The gear loops did great at holding a full rack. Very very happy with this harness

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great harness I've had this harness for 2 years and use it for everything but ice climbing and it's great! I'm all about comfort and this harness delivers for long hanging days. Tons of space to rack gear and super solid without being heavy. Yes there is lighter but at some point you sacrifice on the comfort which is important when doing hanging belays or you are carrying a lot of gear. You cannot put ice clippers on this harness so keep that in mind if it's a feature you require and want one to do it all. I'm 6'1 and 185lbs and like having my leg loops loose. This is my first harness with set leg loops and it is a bit snug for my liking but in no way restrictive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice design but fit is off This harness is well designed. It has everything I would want for a multi-pitch harness without anything superfluous. However, I think Black Diamond missed the mark on sizing these guys. I need the waist of a small and the leg loops of a medium. I do not have large legs but this harness is made for people with stick legs. Wish there was just an extra inch of room.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Don't be fooled This harness is definitely more sturdy, structured, and comfortable than one of BD's more sport climbing specific harnesses I had for a while. However, they emphasize that this is a trad climbing specific harness, one of the reasons being that is has a lot more racking space than other models with two large front gear loops. The pictures and description are not at all accurate. These larger front gear loops are much smaller than they appear in the picture. They are really not that much bigger than the regular sized gear loops. Everything you would bring on an average multi-pitch trad out barely fits on all the gear loops. I love Black Diamond and I still think they make the best hardware in the industry and are one of the best companies to purchase gear from. However, they still have work to do on making a harness that can handle the amount of gear you need for long trad climbs. I don't know why they only made the front gear loop larger. If both gear loops were larger it would make a world of difference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I was looking for! The Chaos harness has everything I was looking for, except maybe an ice clipper but I would use another harness for alpine anyway. One can either be perfect at something, or "OK" at everything. This is perfect at something. Trad climbing...with amazing durability and comfort. The leg adjustments is not a problem at all. In my opinion, this harness is perfect. Another solid product by BD. Moreover, I have never had a manufacturing defect or issue with any Black Diamond gear I have purchased. I can trust them with my life!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome have been using harnesses by that other company with the dead bird... You know which one I'm talking about.... Not anymore ... I ve had the chaos for a couple of weeks now and used it from cragging to alpine route in the squamish area. .. Bottom line is that won't go back to the bird... The chaos is much more comfortable, breathable and the gear loops can take a double rack like nothing... I'm quite impress with the quality of the product.. The new buckles are much better than before... I like everything about it... Word of caution, if you have big cyclist quads, measure them up first... Bd should produce a couple of stand alone leg loops in different size for the abnormale like big that needs a medium waist and large leg loop... Still the best harness I ve purchase so far

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Undetectable Comfort Good design is function and beauty. The Chaos is an incredibly comfortable and functional harness. It slips on quickly and hanging in it for long periods of time isn't nearly as painful as it can be in other harnesses. The simply design of the waist belt makes it easy to rack gear, tie in and belay. Considering that mine is still relatively new, I haven't had any durability issues, but I really like the idea of the reinforced areas on the harness. The Chaos is on par with the rest of the BD line: dialed.
