The Black Diamond 9.4 seamlessly blends high-end specs with a durable construction that can handle day in and day out use. By combining a 2X2 sheath that’s burly enough to withstand every day abuse with a versatile diameter equally suited for hard redpoint burns or projecting sessions, the 9.4 hits the sweet spot for climbers who demand performance and need reliability. The rope also features an easily identifiable middle marker and handling that knots easily and feeds through a belay device smoothly.

  • 2X2 Woven Sheath—Utilizing a 2X2 weave construction, our standard sheath is built to withstand everyday use
  • Durability and Handling Balance—Purpose-built to balance both durability and great handling, our ropes are not too stiff and not too soft, giving you a great feeling rope that knots easily, feeds through your belay device with ease, yet holds up to a barrage of use

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Breaks Down Fast After 3 months of weekend use swapped out for my boyfriend's rope every other weekend and with a gym rope during the week, I have a serious mushy point along with fuzziness on this rope. Imagine my horror as I looked down on a pitch to see my pants covered in yellow flecks. The rope was shedding all over me. Good thing I bought an 80 meter. Definitely not happy to be cutting this thing so quickly. It handles nicely, I like the color, but I expect my rope to at least last more than one season.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not durable, handles poorly This rope lasted me only 3 months of cragging before getting too fuzzy. It gets kinked and twisty more easily than many other ropes and is pretty fat for a 9.4. I usually get about 1-2 years out of my cragging ropes so the durability was disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great everyday rope I got this rope for a trip to Red Rocks for cragging to multi pitch classics. Not too heavy not too thin. It gives a soft catch and easily moves through the belay device.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Middle Fark Middle mark had almost completely disappeared by the fifth rap on the second day we had it out. It was like a weird tarry flakey-ness rather than the standard marking. I expect to lose a middle mark when my rope gets filthy, but it's kind of weak to have to tape it up on the second day.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Smooth and supple I loved the rope right out of the bag. No “new rope tangles”. Silky smooth to feel and clip. We did lower over a rough edge and was slightly bummed to see some fray on day one but I think any rope would’ve shown this wear. Plus it is not a dry so to be expected I suppose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent rope This is a very light rope, it's also soft and very fast to belay.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly resilient Just wrapped up guiding two weeks’ guiding in the Black Hills with two of these 80m cords (required for some of the extended pitches and TR situations we were rigging for clients.). Rope selection is always a trade off, but I was surprised by how light and packable these were- and even more surprised by how well they held up to group TR days over long pitches of rough rock. Price is a sweet spot, too. I’ll be stocking more of these for sure.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great for a while Had this rope for about 1.5 years with some fairly heavy use but the sheath showed signs of wear really quick and eventually had a core shot that forced the retirement of the rope. I really like the rope but it is not super durable compared to many other ropes out there this same diameter.
