How-to Video: Fitting Black Diamond Gloves and Mitts

Soloist Gloves is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Glove Thanks BD for continuing to provide glove options with removable inserts/liners. IMO all gloves should be this way. I wear glove with liner when I am belaying or otherwise standing around in the cold. I can remove liners and wear shell when climbing and then remove shell and put warm liners on when at summit/hiking back out. Just great to have so many options and be able to quickly dry everything. I also have the Legend Glove and the Guide Glove which are both nice too but the fixed liner makes them less flexible and take long to dry if you stick wet hands inside (which tends to happen a lot more than people think).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent warmth, fit, great liner. The design on these gloves are great. Love the super super warm liners that come out which makes drying gloves simple. I added my TNF glove leash b/c these don't come with one. The BDry is perfectly fine by me vs the old Gore-Tex gloves I had. I would 100% recommend these to everyone, especially if you have cold hands. FYI, BD has nearly 2x the insulation the OR version of this glove has. Totally worth it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from First Test Used these on a new year’s attempt of Eldorado peak in the North Cascades. They were way to warm for the 20 F bushwhack and steep snow wallowing on the approach, I removed the liners and used just the shell to protect hands from snow and devil’s club and while grabbing slide alder and they help up well. They worked great with liners in at camp and on the ski out next morning. They were still too warm actually and the liners got damp from sweat, but dried quickly when I took the shell off during a snack break. Can’t wait to use them in colder conditions they we designed for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Go-To Cold Weather Glove I bought this glove for a mountaineering course in the Alaska Range and have used it for winter hikes thus far. The features are well thought out, and the removable liner makes drying it overnight much much easier (not many gloves have this). I have personally used it down to -8 F with windchill, however I think that is the limit for me - my hands were starting to sting even with handwarmers and moving fast. Above zero, however, I have found it more than ample in warmth, especially with a handwarmer. If you are female or have circulation issues, I'd expect it to be warm in the 5-10 F range at the extreme. My only complaints are that while the fabric itself is waterproof, the seams are not, so if you are using this glove in super wet conditions you should seam seal it first. Also, the liner's velcro does not seem to be super sturdy - perhaps it is just glued on. Nevertheless the gloves have held up great and I am very pleased overall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Gloves I bought these for my daughter who is a ski instructor in Pennsylvania. She was looking for a glove that would be good for the coldest of days, was easy to dry and had a removable inner glove that could be used on warmer days. We just had a long stretch of cold weather dropping below zero on a couple of days with may days of negative wind chills. She said they were worked great. I have a pair myself and love them, I know these aren't billed as 3 in 1 but I use them as 2 in 1 all the time, just wearing the liner when it's warmer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good gloves but struggled in the cold I bought the medium size based on the sizing chart provided and, while this was correct for finger length, the fit around the fingers was pretty tight. Not uncomfortable but not good in very cold weather where there should be more space between fingers and glove for insulation. In a recent trip up Mt Elbrus, my fingers became very cold, so much so that I had to shift the glove so that my fingers were in the palm section of the glove. And this was only around -7 degrees C - well within the specified temperature range of the gloves. So that was a bit disappointing. I think that the large size would have been too big for my hands but possibly warmer on the fingers? Other than that, they seem like really good gloves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very warm Bought these for a trip to Iceland in April. We did a little ice climbing and glacier touring. Great glove, very warm, fairly dexterous for how warm they are. The gauntlet is easy to operate with one hand/your teeth. They are pretty fitted. I could not fit a glove liner or anything under them, but did not need that either. I bought an XS. I have fairly small hands (short fingers) and in the past small unisex/men's gloves were way too big. these fit well but I would not want them any smaller. If you are a woman and have medium hands buy the small.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm gloves I just used these gloves for the first time skiing this season. They felt warm and comfortable. The were dexterous enough to go ice climbing which is why I bought them. These were purchased to replace another B/D model which was discontinued. I was very pleased with that model and was disappointed when they were not available. However they served me well over many years of ice climbing and skiing. These soloist gloves appear to be filling that spot. Even the wrist adjustment seems to be helping keep my hands stay warm.. I was a bit apprehensive about those wrist tabs at first. After using them I now fully understand their function. The removable liner is a big plus for me as the gloves dry much quicker when the liner is removed. The soloist glove has all the features that I look for in a glove that I plan to have for a long time. The sizing is true to the size. Totally pleased with these gloves ! Pete
