Rated 5 out of 5 by ridz_o_rama from Does The Job Bought this after a somewhat extensive (online) research. Price was reasonable for what it is. Stiffer chassis than other soft shells thus making it hold it's shape better if you will but it's the water repellent characteristics that I love best. Used it daily to work, driving and public transport. Brought it along to New Zealand for a 11 day trip including skiing up in Mt Ruapehu via Whakapapa. Used as the outermost shell with a fleece inner and base, in pretty heavy snowfall and no issues for a first timer to snowy conditions like me. But I recently lost this jacket while in transit and I just got a second one. Recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Tippycanoe from Amazing coat for ski touring - sizing not so great I just bought this coat and spent the last seven days touring in it everyday. It truly does have great ventilation and the lack of pit zips was not an issue at all as the lighter material that BD put there worked well. The internal pockets on the front were excellent for stashing my skins when I didn't want to put them in my backpack. However, the sizing is not right. I am a L to XL kinda guy - 6 feet tall, 200 lbs - and found the L size of this coat way too baggy and big. This is unheard of for me as I find I usually have to buy XL sizing to fit my big shoulders and long arms. I tried on a L that a friend had and it did fit well. So my tip would be to size down one full size. The cut is definitely not a an athletic type cup, very roomy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by rob from Versatile and harness-friendly shell I have used this shell for a number of long days in the mountains in blustery conditions and I found that it climbs well and keeps the conditions at bay. From dripping ice climbs to long alpine slogs in the wind, this shell has kept me warm and stoked. The pockets are easily accessible while wearing a harness. The hood is comfortable even with a climbing helmet on, and the soft shell construction allows any climbing motion to be uninhibited. The texture of the fabric also is durable, and I haven't noticed any 'catching' or micro-tears from abrasion. This is a very breathable, durable, flexible shell that climbs well and is great for higher intensity efforts. I am 6'1" and 175lbs and the medium is perfect. For perspective Patagonia shells in medium are usually too tight around the shoulders by a touch, but this BD medium offers a bit more shoulder room and fits perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mack Wa from Great Jacket, better customer service I got stuck down in Salt lake without a shell and BD store hooked me up with this jacket. If it was just for the customer service alone I would recommend Black Diamond they have treated me so well and warranty service is bar none Now for the jacket. This is a fenominal touring jacket and I have been using it a lot since. Its very breathable with big front pockets that also double as vents if you leave them empty. the material is great at resisting abrasions for a soft shell!

Rated 5 out of 5 by JTDavis from The Ultimate Jacket I bought this jacket for high output days while I lived in Minnesota. I needed something windproof while I climbed, biked, skied, and well, lived. This jacket quickly surpassed my expectations. Since buying the jacket 2 years ago and moving to Colorado this has been my go to jacket for 90% of my adventures. From the 40+ MPH winds of Minnesota, to the 300+ miles of backpacking and 500+ miles of biking in Colorado, and countless climbing routes in between this jacket has been there through and through. The abrasion resistant material has made it's way through granite, thorns, snow, ice, and a brewery or two. The material is light enough to be worn on hot days as a stand alone (or too lazy to put sunscreen on). The jacket is water RESISTANT, the precip has to be light for it to work. Had a down pour in Medicine Bow-Routt NF and after 25 Minutes of intense rain it soaked through. I knew it was coming, so no dings. I am 6'0", 160lbs and the Medium fits very well. This is my favorite Jacket in my fleet. In early May my Dawn Patrol (Blue) was stolen after I left it behind on accident at a climbing gym, within a week I had ordered a new one (Black) because of how often I use it

Rated 4 out of 5 by Teledave7779 from First generation I purchased this jacket retail, at the end of the ski season a few years ago... the upsides... the jacket is completely bombproof... I’ve got at least 50 ski days in it, resort and BC. I’ve also used it around town. The black color has never faded... cold temps and snow, wind, freezing rain, you stay dry... light rain, still dry... heavy rain, as long as the hybrid panels don’t wet out, still pretty dry... downside... I ski’d during last March, it was really foggy, light rain, lifts were wet... like 100% humidity, and in those conditions, the hybrid panels seem to equalize the moisture inside the jacket with the environment... I got soaked... The jacket does so many things well... additionally I’m 5’9”, and weigh 180... a large fits well with room to layer

Rated 3 out of 5 by Auto fill from Should have kept with schoeller I love the fig and function of this jacket but having owned the previous model it was s major mistake for Blackdiamond to have switched away from the Schoeller Nanosphere material. Now there are no stand out features anymore sadly

Rated 4 out of 5 by Maxx from Solid jacket This is a good alpine layering piece, or outer layer if there is no rain. I'll wear it as my outermost layer skiing as long as it's not snowing too hard. It's stretchy, durable and breathes well. I'm 6', 170lbs, and a medium fits great.
