First Light Hoody - Past Season is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 89.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great puffy for most conditions This is a really great jacket i wanted to try it out in different conditions before i wrote a review, and i gotta say I've been very happy. -Very warm I've worn it in temps from 25-60 degrees and was comfortable never to hot or to cold. -Breathes well i usually have a problem overheating once i get moving but not in this jacket. -Blocks wind very well I've it in around 40kt winds and felt very little bleed through. - Sheds light precip well and did a surprisingly good job in a little heavy rain.(although i would not wear only this in prolonged rain) I'm 5'10" 190lbs (i like to lift) and the large fits well, a little loose and good for layering.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Hoodie Ever I bought this hoodie a month ago for a fall backpacking trip in a Desolation Wilderness and it did not disappoint. I wore it every day. It’s so warm, it like someone giving you a hug, it cuts the wind but it breathes really well too. It ended up snowing on us at camp around 8,500 so I slept in it. The hood makes the perfect bivy. Since the trip, I haven’t taken it off. I wear it to the office, fly with it and wear it around the house. I’m wearing it right now writing this review... My only feedback for next years line would be to trim in the hood just a bit so it’s a little less mushroom head for the cool factor. Bravo BD, bravo

Rated 5 out of 5 by from outer midlayer I like two midlayers for cold dry days here ideally an outer one that is tougher and an inner one that is breathable. After a lot of research I chose this as an outer one and it hasn't disappointed. Comfort is good enough for this purpose. I wouldn't want to ski uphill for too long in it, but it's better against wind than most. It repels light precip and tree branches well enough. Fit is on point in typical BD style: good for slim tall people, which I am not but it works for me due to wide shoulders and I like the long torso length. I am 5'11" 180 pounds and got a large. With my mission shell in medium it's a bomber combo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One Jacket to Rule Them All I don't normally write reviews, but this jacket is simply amazing. I have a closet full of jackets for all the subtleties in weather conditions and this one immediately became my go-to for a wide range of conditions. Here's why: - Super-warm but not bulky: I can wear this jacket on top of a t-shirt and am comfy in 30 degree temps if I'm moving at all (i.e. walking the dog). It feels as warm as a puffy but is form-fitting and doesn't feel bulky or restrictive. It has a nice "layered" feel. - Sheds light precip: I can't speak to how it performs in a full on rain storm, but it easily sheds light precipitation and does a good job blocking wind. - Trim fit: Finally a jacket that isn't cut for the "Average American". Climbers tend to be lean and this jacket fits trim and seems to have extra long arms. You can climb in this jacket without feeling like a marshmallow. - Looks good: Get this jacket in black and you can wear it to fancy dinners or business meetings and look good doing it. Well done, Black Diamond.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for me I got this for a mid weight insulation option with a shell that I was given. This is my first civilian style puff jacket. I like down coats, but the synthetic insulation in this jacket was light weight and compressed pretty well. The day after the jacket was delivered, it snowed 8 inches. Super warm but I didn't overheat at all. I'm a bigger guy (6 feet tall, 220 lbs) and I find the cut good around the shoulders, but the bottom of the coat is a little tight for my preference. This has quickly become my go to jacket for cool weather around town. I have not taken it skiing or hiking yet, but I can't wait to try it. *Note I bought the last season's version of the jacket.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from great except for hood Great jacket. Why no draw string for the hood? Basically the hood isn't athletic functional cause it pulls over the head and obscures peripheral vision. All the other BD jackets I have with hoods have the draw string. Why not this one?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My new go to Bought this coat primarily for back country touring and have gotten out in it a few times so far. It has lived up to expectations with breathability, weight, fit, and feel. Two deep side pockets and one inside chest pocket, all with zippers, give plenty of room for snacks or your phone. Tapered wrist cuffs make sure the sleeve stays above your wrist and out of the way on change overs but isn't overly snug or uncomfortable. The relaxed but tapered fit make it ideal for almost any situation, I would definitely recommend adding this to your gear closet if your trying to fill an active-insulation layer need.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Put through the wringer. Amazing jacket Chilly days in the Red River Gorge, tough ice climbs in New Hampshire, Dirty cracks in Colorado. Sitting on route in a harness for hours on end taking photos got cold sometimes in the winter. but the first light was perfect when I wasn't moving and wasn't to hot when I was jumaring up my line. This jacket went through it all with me. Very warm and light jacket. Would definitely recommend over any other Synthetic jacket on the market. Even a few down ones.
