Alpine and Distance series trekking pole comparision

Trail Series trekking pole comparison

Alpine FLZ Trekking Poles is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Trekking Poles for Approaches I've used these Alpine FLZ folding poles on 8 Pacific NW hikes now. They are easy to extend and retract, have firm joints, and are compact and light. The grips and adjustable strap are very comfortable. I did a trial comparison with two similar folding Black Diamond sets (Distance Carbon Z and Distance FLZ) and the Alpine FLZ felt and performed much better for me in terms of grip, feel, tension, balance and stiffness. I found I like my poles to be stiff like these. I also preferred the comfort of this set's cushioned, breathable straps. I grip lightly but apply signficant downward force into the lower flat part of my hand and upper wrist against the strap loops, and these poles accomodate this technique in a way that provides firm traction, balance and control while being comfortable and lightweight. Recommended.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from My Alpine FLZ Trekking poles broke after 4 months After ca. 15 hikes / 4 months one of the poles suddenly broke and I had an accident because of that. (Not the other way round!) There were no visible damages on the pole from previous hikes and unfortunately that part of the pole that broke is not possible to inspect anyway - at least before collapsing. These poles are really dangerous and I cannot recommend those to anybody. I didn't purchase the Carbon-only version because I was worried about poor stability and high risk of accidents. Finally I had to learn that even the Aluminum-Version is not that durable....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light, packable and strong! My wife and I have used our Black Diamond Alpine FLZ trekking poles on several hikes so far. The poles are really light and the cork handles are comfortable and the straps provide security. It's amazing the difference these poles make when hiking, especially over uneven, winding terrain. They kept me upright when I encountered unexpected snow on a local hike, even without the included snow baskets. Very happy with this purchase and highly recommend!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great poles I had the older version of these poles and found the new updated ones to be more streamlined. The bottom locking buckle is now a slider which is easier to lock/unclock and much quick to fold/unfold. The leashes are a bit tighter which make it a bit harder to put my hands through them when using gloves but it's not that bad. My favorite aspect about these poles is the short profile when they are folded, very easy to get them in a pack on a summit push when the climbing gets steep. They are not the lightest poles around but the alternative would be to go for the carbon ones which are feather lite but not as durable as these ones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact and Strong I bought these as 4-season poles for hiking and backcountry splitboard touring. They collapse down very small and fit perfectly in the side pouch of a pack or inside of the main compartment of the pack. They are quick to deploy and very stable when decending/ascending steep trails. The cork handles are supremely comfortable and keep your hands dry from sweat. Great product and happy customer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice pole evolution Have been using poles for 15 years. I let go of the shock systems and enjoy the easy breakdown and the light-weight features of this pair. The flick-lock system provides confident lock-down when conditions go cold and wet. Cork handle, way to go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These polls literally saved my life I decided to cross Baron Creek May 19 2018. First part of the crossing was shallow out to a bar. The second part got waist deep. Huge rocks to step on. My footing was unsure. The water was literally pushing me away. I planted the polls in front of me and had my back to the rushing water. I made 1 step at a time and finally got to the other side. 1 issue - I had to cross back on the way back! Thank you polls, thank you earth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first experience I purchased the Alpine FLZ Trekking Poles for a wilderness adventure in October 2018. Although I have experienced wilderness adventures often in my life I felt the need at an age of 68 in just as few weeks, to have support while backpacking. I had never purchased trekking poles before and had not used them. My experience with my Black Diamond poles could not have gone better. They helped me to be more stable and secure. Thank you Black Diamond for your suggestion on what poles to purchase as well as sizing me perfectly. I look forward to these poles lasting for many more mountain trips.
