The problem with avalanche dragons is that they are not mysterious or unpredictable, but they are invisible, sleeping down below, buried beneath the perfect façade.—Utah Avalanche Center Director Bruce Tremper

Founded in Alta, UT, in the late ‘70s, the Utah Avalanche Center was one of the first avalanche forecasting organizations in North America. Today, it is one of the most advanced and serves as the nucleus of the Utah backcountry community. When traveling in avalanche terrain, knowledge is the most important piece of gear one can carry, and the UAC serves up a healthy dose, providing daily forecasts, avalanche awareness classes and accident analyses to Utah’s skiers, splitboarders and backcountry travelers.
