Defect, not really splash-roof, no recommendation to buy

"Lamp stopped working after light contact with rain. When opening the housing internal electronics were corroded and finally the lamp has stopped working. Before I had the predecessor of the lamp which was working for years. Now the new generation of my lamp stopped working after two weeks. I'm not satisfied with the product quality compared to the former generation and especially in this case with the sealing of the product. Would not recommend to buy a next time."

Solid midsized lantern

"This lantern is a great design but it's probably a little bit big for backpacking and a little bit small for car camping. Which makes it perfect in my opinion for adventure motorcycle camping. The light is sufficient for a picnic table and more than enough for the inside of a medium size tent. The fact that the light shines out of the bottom helps illuminate table space and shine down when hanging from a tent The lithium battery life is great and the addition of AA batteries makes it perfect for long trips as well. The legs and hook work perfect and overall it is a great design. The only con is that it could have a little more light for its size but overall I am happy with the product."

Pretty cool!

"This is replacing a very old Apollo Lantern. And this one is up for the task. Great stability, and great range of lighting. Then there's the rechargeable battery and battery backup too. The bonus is you can charge your other things, phone, gps etc from this. Just bring the right cables. And it's great to use on the patio in evening! I'd give 5 stars but only had for month."

Wicked good light

"First off, BD customer service is exceptional. I contacted them about an older version of this lantern that had quit working. I was only looking for trouble shooting advice. Instead, they sent a new lantern, no questions, far exceeding my expectations. The new lantern is awesome! Well thought out features, plenty bright enough, nice upgrade to a lantern I already thought was pretty darn good."

Perfect for the Needs

"Bought this for a training event, and it worked great used it for a week straight without having and about 2-3 hours every night. I used lithium batteries and the built in battery and it worked amazingly"

Incredible battery

"Ive had pretty much all the Black Diamond lanterns, and several headlamps, and each one has been engineered better than the one before. The new Apollo is solid, and a nice step up from the previous one. First off- the battery is incredible. With the AAs _out_, my lantern has been on low for 70 hours and still going. It is the best thing Ive ever seen for earthquake backup here in California. Waterproof, spark proof, hangs up or sits on ground, and lasts forever. If you are backpacking, the Zip is a better choice unless you are in a group. For us, camping out of an old Westfalia far from anywhere, it is great inside, or outside, where we usually are. Im hoping that the next version will be a little brighter on high, but it is adequate for two people reading under the stars. My only other suggestion is to have a green or red LED option like with headlamps. Currently, four and a half stars."

yep, great

"used it for a camping trip june 2018. it's very stable on the ground, ideal to hang up. no glare, it's all well thought-through. used it in the lowest setting to avoid need for electricity at the camp sites. in 10 days, no need to recharge, then switched it on at home and to my surprise, it remained on for another 2 days, also in lowest setting. for me, this is fantstic."

Bigger, Heavier and Not Bright

"First off, I notice that the website now calls this a 225 lumen lantern which is 25 lumens LESS than previously advertised and how my instructions describe it. I guess I'm not the only one who has discovered it isn't as bright as expected. I'd call it a 125 lumen lantern at best. Oh it is cool and all and I guess rechargeable batteries are an improvement to some folks, but it isn't bright and it is MUCH bigger. I have two of the old version Apollo (2015) which were rated at 200 lumens and one is EXTREMELY bright while the other is less so. Both are WAY brighter than this lantern and a lot smaller. Bottom line, if you want bright and can live withOUT rechargeable batteries. . . . . . get the old Apollo."
