The Capitan MIPS is Black Diamond’s bomber, ultra-durable helmet,

featuring added coverage on both the sides and back and MIPS tech, while maintaining a sleek, cradle fit for all-day comfort. The added MIPS (Multidirectional Impact Protection System) technology. The MIPS system is designed to protect against the rotational motion (or kinematics) transmitted to the brain from angled impacts to the head. This added protection system has been proven to reduce the rotational violence to the brain by absorbing and redirecting oblique impacts to the helmet. With a 2-piece ABS shell construction, a fusion of EPP foam and an EPS foam puck, the Capitan meets the proposed UIAA increased side and back protection requirements, while the vents provide ample breathability when temps heat up. A low-profile suspension system dials in the fit, and the integrated headlamp clips with an elastic keeper on the back secure your light so you can push through the night.

Captain, my captain

"This stylish helmet was purchased to be a jack of all trades. It climbs, it skis, it bikes, and it’s so comfortable I forget it’s even on! Highly recommend"

Top notch!

"So strictly speaking, I didn’t buy this for rock climbing, I work in events, so this kinda falls in a grey area in terms of laws around being fit for purpose. For what it’s worth that disclaimer is made before purchase and on the helmet’s safety spec. On events with cranes, staff need to wear hard hats. However if you’re working with audio/lights etc, you look up a lot or could be running under stages from minute to minute, so “hard hats” having a visor, and typically not having straps to clip in, means that they tend to fall off a lot, or you can’t easily look up or down without it having to use a hand to stop one from falling off. So, you see a lot of riggers with mountain climbing gear on sites. With all that said, I couldn’t be happier with the quality of it. It feels great to wear, it isn’t heavy, heat isn’t an issue because it breaths so well. . : In a way it’s annoying that in it wouldn’t meet the criteria for what’s legal on a site here, however it’s probably far more safe than entry level construction helmets. But it’s a fantastic product, everything even down to the straps feel is perfect. You can really tune the fit in and eventually almost forget that you’re wearing it, they have it that right. …This is saying this having clocked up multiple 12 hour shifts in a lot of sun, or non stop rain. I’ll definitely recommend them anyway!"

Works perfect

"Works perfectly as described. Fits nice and snug. The BD logo is easily peeled off on the front. This could be bad for some but I liked it since I’m not into big obnoxious logos on my gear."
